Ulverston Library remains closed after issues with its electrics were discovered on Friday.
The issues at the King’s Road venue were found during routine checks and the library was immediately closed
Westmorland and Furness Council, which is responsible for the library, added that the building had now been thoroughly checked and made safe.
It is hoped that an alternative location for at least a partial service will be confirmed in the near future, it said.
A spokesman said: “Alternative provision will continue to be in Ulverston and we have been exploring a number of possible locations.
“Discussions are ongoing and we hope to have clearer details soon.
“In the meantime customers can find full services at nearby libraries at Grange and Barrow, with Library Links in Dalton and Broughton-in-Furness.
“Our Ulverston library staff are also calling our regular and more vulnerable customers to make them aware of the situation and to give updates on progress with the alternative provision.
“If you have a book to return then you can still safely put it through the letterbox at Ulverston Library and a reminder that we don’t charge fines on overdue books if you are not able to return it by the due date.
“We recognise that the closure of such a well-used and popular library will have caused some inconvenience and we apologise to our valued customers.
“Please be reassured that we are working hard to ensure that at least a partial alternative library service will be up and running in Ulverston as soon as possible.’’
