It was a busy weekend for volunteer rescuers at the weekend.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team was called out five times on Saturday and Sunday.
Yesterday, volunteers were called to help when shouts for help were heard in the sea off Kells.
A 999 call was made to police and the team, along with their colleagues from the Maryport Coastguard team and St Bees RNLI responded.
Police found a person in the water at Whitehaven harbour and they were recovered to safety.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team was then called to the beach at Flimby, near Maryport, after reports of a medical emergency.
Cumbria police, North West Ambulance Service, BEEP Doctors, Great North Air Ambulance Service and Maryport Rescue also responded.
The Whitehaven Coastguard team said: “On arrival, the casualty was thankfully already being treated by medical staff, so our OICs efforts then turned to packaging and safe extraction by stretcher to the awaiting land ambulance.
“While on our way to the scene, a request was made for assistance from Maryport Rescue to launch their lifeboat and also their land crew to attend and offer support with extraction.”
A 999 call, also no Sunday, summoned the team to Whitehaven marina for a person on the marina who appeared in distress and in need of possible assistance.
A spokesman said: “We were tasked to investigate and given the information provided we readied for a snatch/in-water rescue should we be presented with that on arrival. Cumbria police were also notified to assist in searching and conducting enquiries. On arrival, the person had left the area.
“A search was conducted of the immediate and surrounding areas. With no sightings and no further reports, all assets stood down pending any further new information.”
The day before, the team was called to help after five people and a dog were reported to be cut off by the tide at Mawbray, near Maryport.
A spokesman said: “Colleagues from Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Burgh-by-Sands Coastguard Rescue Team and Silloth RNLI were also tasked.
“Whilst travelling to scene to assist our colleagues, the welcome news came through that this had been safely concluded.”
The team also helped to search for a missing man on Saturday from Skinburness, with colleagues from; Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Burgh-by-Sands Coastguard Rescue Team, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199, Cumbria police and Maryport Rescue.
A short time into the search the missing man was found but was dead
A spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this sad time.”
