Kells are still well placed to make the play offs in the National Conference Premier Division.
Their game at Wigan St. Patrick’s is the Division’s last official fixture in the regular season with everyone else now completed.
If Kells win on Saturday they will leap frog Thatto Heath Crusaders into sixth place on superior points differential.
That’s the plus side. The downside is that they will have to fit in the elimination semi-final at Rochdale Mayfield in mid week – Tuesday, September 19.
They set up the last match decider with a comprehensive 60-10 home win over Thatto Heath, which actually significantly turned round the points differential in Kells favour.
Although it was only 18-0 at half time, the visitors had only travelled with 15 players and with fewer options from the bench ran out of steam as Kells finished with a romp.
Keelan Parr and Dominic Wear led the way with a hat trick each while also crossing were Harley Nelson (2), Jack Ainley, Jamie Jennings and Dyland Grears. Ross Gainford and Wear kicked four goals each.
Jay Weatherill has proved himself a top finisher at rugby league and also football – and he was at it again for Wath Brown Hornets in their 42-0 win over Wigan St. Patrick’s.
Weatherill, top scorer for Cleator Moor Celtic two years ago, helped himself to five touchdowns as the Hornets eased to a comfortable win.

Whatever the did wasn’t going to affect where they finished in the League. Fourth place was assured without any prospect of moving on or losing it.
They led 18-0 at half-time and eventually claimed nine tries with Fran King (2), Peter Caddy and Dean Rooney adding to Weatherill’s personal haul. Only three goals were kicked – one each for Cole Walker-Taylor, Sam Curwen and that man Weatherill.
It means the Brow will host Siddal in Saturday’s first elimination semi final.
Barrow Island missed-out on the Division Two play-offs when they went down 34-10 at Saddleworth Rangers.
Saddleworth need to beat Myton in their final game on Saturday to qualify for the play offs. Ore alarmingly a Myton win would see them move above the Islanders on points differential and send the Barrow side down to Division Three.
In a tight first half Saddleworth led 10-4 but the Islanders felt the pinch in the heat with just three substitutes. Shane Sanderson scored both their tries with Sam Jones adding a goal.
After last season’s heroics in the Third Division by reaching the play offs in their first year of Conference rugby, Seaton have ended this one bottom of the pile.
They were 30-6 behind at Drighlington when the half time break came and it was a similar story in the second half as they eventually lost 58-12.
The win pushed Drighlington into the last play off place while Seaton finished a point behind fellow west Cumbrians Hensingham.
It was hard going in very hot conditions for Seaton travelled with the bare 13. Their tries were scored by Jon-Carl Bryan and Tom Dover with Bryan landing two goals.
