It’s gone down to the wire – and Carlisle are within two points of retaining their Cumbria League Premier Division crown.
They travel to Keswick in the final game looking to cement another title with a victory – as they did last year.
But even if they are beaten for a second successive week, two points would be good enough to keep them beyond the reach of Furness even if they win their final game at Wigton.
Carlisle had hoped to seal the title again at home to Workington last week but for the second time this season the sides were involved in a thriller.
The game at the Valentine Ground eventually went to Carlisle by two wickets and this time it was Workington who triumphed by ten runs.
Furness duly won at Keswick, to set-up the final day decider, although the odds are still in Carlisle’s favour.
Keswick look more solid now at this stage of the campaign when in previous years they have been hit by football and rugby calls.
The fact that Glen Weightman has retired from rugby union at Kendal has helped considerably as he has been in good form with both bat and ball.
It’s been a good battle this season with three teams – Workington were the other – in contention for most of the season, and a fourth Cockermouth hanging on despite surprise defeats.
Club stalwart Raymond Denham said the Sandair side would have been in it but for defeats by the four W’s – Whitehaven, Workington, Wigton and the Weather!
Two games will decide who goes down to Division One and be replaced by Dalton.
Haverigg currently have a five point advantage over Lindal Moor after they beat their rivals by three wickets last week.
The final games of the season see Lindal travel to Egremont while Haverigg entertain Cleator.
In the other matches to conclude the season Workington travel to Millom while Cockermouth entertain Whitehaven.
