A historic tower that overlooks the Lake District and Morecambe Bay is set to be specially opened for one day.
Kirkhead Tower at Kents Bank near Grange-over-Sands is not usually accessible – but a special free tour is taking place on Saturday September 16 as part of a series of Heritage Open Days.
People will be able to see the tower close up and learn about its history with guides from Morecambe Bay Partnership, who will also share insights into the nationally significant prehistoric environment and cave networks near the tower.
The tower is thought to be a summerhouse, built in the early 19th century and is Grade II listed. Work to repair its stonework took place in 2018 thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Morgan Robinson, estate operations director at Holker Estate, which owns Kirkhead Tower, said: “We hope lots of people will take the opportunity to visit this historic site.
“It is a well-known local landmark and this is a great opportunity to explore and learn about its fascinating history. The tower affords wonderful views of one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the country.”
Kirkhead Tower History Tours take place on Saturday September 16 at 11am and 2pm and pre-booking is required via trybooking.co.uk.
