Cumbrian players figured prominently for England Under-18s when they beat Wales 32-16 at Leigh.
It puts England top of the table with all three home country rivals on two points but Ireland still have to play Scotland and the winners of that will draw level with the English.
But England have a vastly superior points differential so it will need a very big win in the final fixture to deny them the title.
It will be a fair wait to see who challenges the English as they don’t meet until the end of October.

England had got off to a flying start as they established a 12-0 lead with tries from Dylan Grears (Kells) and Luke Sutcliffe, both converted by Harley Nelson (Kells).
Harrison Doe scored an unconverted try for Wales before the break but within five minutes of the restart two more Cumbrians had nipped over for tries – Josh Blinkhorn (Millom) and Devan Sharp (Wath Brow).
This time George Jameson of Salford Roosters took on the kicking and converted the second try.

Wales came back with a try by Alex Banks which Llewellyn Hawkes converted but England (and Cumbria) finished strongly as Blenkhorn scored two more tries to complete his-hat-trick, Jameson converted one.
Jayden Grey scored a further try near the end for Wales and Hawkes improved.
