The first round of the President’s Cup dominated the weekend programme in the West Cumberland Sunday League.
Unfortunately one game was called off after The Sun conceded their tie at Bluebell because they couldn’t raise a team.
But there were fist bumps and high fives for Deer Orchard as they recorded their first win of the season. They travelled to Swan and returned home with a 6-0 victory courtesy of goals from Ben Wright (2), Sam Wright (2), Luke Graham and Luke Bewsher-Cannon.
There could have been a shock at Seaton Rangers where the hosts played out a 0-0 draw at home to Sun Inn. When it went to penalties the Aspatria side prevailed 4-3.
Mally Graham, Kieran McCluskey, Louie Elliot and Mark Beaty made no mistake from the spot for Sun Inn/.
There was only one Premier Division game in which Dearham Commercial beat Lowca Pirates 7-4.
Steven Stoddart grabbed four of the Dearham goals and Jack Dunstan was also on the mark. It was quite an eventful day for James Langstaff, a former Lowca player, as he scored for his new club Dearham – but also put through his own goal for a rather unusual hat-trick!.
Shane Tyson (2) and Caleb Parr were the Lowca scorers at the right end of the field.
The other games were in the First Division when two of them finished all square.
FC Butchers drew 3-3 at Royal Oak with goals from Dean Scholey (2) and Olly Scott with James Harper, Daniel Wilkins and an own goal making up the home response.
Salterbeck and Flimby finished all square at 2-2 with Charlie Shaw netting both for the Workington side. Lazo Rayner and Scott Underwood were on target for Flimby.
In the other game Senhouse Street won 7-0 at King’s Arms led by Dan Smith (4), Chris Taylor scored a brace with Ben Challenger adding the seventh.
