A group of Cockermouth residents have set up a group to help tackle climate change and is looking for volunteers to join them.

The group wants to start projects that are useful for townsfolk, such as food, transport, lower energy costs for homes, and nature and wildlife and wants people’s input.

Nick Robson, one of the group’s organisers, said: “This group aims to make a real difference to people’s lives around the town and will be part of a network of similar groups which already exist in Keswick, Carlisle, Penrith and elsewhere across the region.

“Even if you aren’t able to become a member, please come along and share your ideas. The group aims to be as inclusive as possible, so we want to encourage people from all age groups, backgrounds and experience to join in.”

There will be two events at Cockermouth Town Hall – at 7pm on Monday October 2 and 11am on Thursday October 5 and everyone is welcome.

The group is supported by the charity Cumbria Action for Sustainability.
