Written over a number of years and eventually recorded with Tom Tyson at the Music Farm, the Delta Geckos have produced an album of original material.
This is a beautiful collection of eight blues songs that really shows the class and calibre of the band.
Since the heyday of British blues in the 60s and 70s with Cream, The Yardbirds, Eric Burdon & The Animals the mainstream appeal of blues has dwindled.
But the blues are still alive and well, with artists like Joanne Shaw Taylor, Ian Siegal, King King, Ash Wilson, Albany Down, Ben Poole, The Redfish Blues Band, Catfish and many more blues music is alive and strong producing some brilliant music.
There are blues festivals running all over the country with huge support, makes you realise what the mainstream is missing.
The Delta Geckos are very much part of this list with this album, although they predominantly perform covers, and very well too I might add, this is a properly original and great sounding album.
To me this sounds similar to a lot of the British blues from the 60s and 70s, in a very good way, and while it sounds properly British it doesn’t sound like any specific band, there are elements that bring to mind artists like The Creedence Clearwater Revival as well.
This is a classy mix of great rhythm section, sublime guitar work, lyrics that actually have meaning and some perfect harmonica playing.
It’s obvious right from the first that they are a tight band, that this was recorded as a live session in the studio explains a lot about them – they are performers and the sound is very natural and it feels like this is just them enjoying playing together.
Live at the Music Farm could be as easily called Yours for a Fiver as that is how much this marvellous blues album will cost you, but you’ll have to either purchase direct at a gig (and why not indeed?) or get in touch through Facebook.
It is also available on Spotify should you use such a thing. My advice is to get along to a gig and enjoy them in the wild. Once again blown away by the talent we have in this fair county and what amazing music is being produced.
