Workington Reds collected their first away win of the season when they beat Bradford Park Avenue 2-1.
It was almost a perfect away performance only marred by a 90th minute goal for the hosts to spoil their clean sheet.
Manager Danny Grainger was delighted with the performance and the result.
“I think everyone did their bit and it was an excellent team performance. Although the results haven’t been there I have been happy enough with most of our performances.
“To be fair we should probably have been more comfortable than we were in the final score and could have had three or four goals.
“We knew it would take time to settle into this League after promotion. We couldn’t expect to dominate teams as we have been doing for three or four years in the West Division.
“But I have seen signs now that we are learning and adapting to the new league,” he said.
Reds had gone ahead on 15 minutes with a typically penetrative ball forward from Jim Atkinson found Fin Wallbank and his cross was headed home by Steven Rigg.
Rigg has been handed the central striking role in the absence of Lewis Reilly and has done a fine job, although not completely fully fit, and he put in another excellent shift against Bradford.
Conor Tinnion and Scott Allison were both denied by good saves from the home keeper and Reds were very much in charge of the game – but needed a second goal.
It came on 81 minutes when Dan Wordsworth joined the attack at a corner and headed home at the near post.
Substitute Greg McCarragher had a chance but shot straight at the keeper and Allison was dispossessed as he tried to go round the keeper.
There was a late scare for Reds when Will Longbottom fired home across Atkinson in the third minute of five added on but they held on for a thoroughly deserved victory.
Reds can now look forward to two attractive home games. They host Lancaster City on Tuesday night (7-45pm) and on Saturday entertain FC United of Manchester (3pm).
