Workington Town have signed the 19-year-old Barrow Raiders half-back Ellis Archer on a two-year deal.

A former St Helens scholar who went on to make his Super League debut against Wakefield Trinity in August 2022, Archer returned to his hometown club last year.

However, he was restricted to just five appearances throughout the 2023 season, three of which were starts.

Archer also featured for development side Furness Raiders in the College League during his time at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.

He will now look to continue his progression by making the move to Workington, who finished fifth in Betfred League 1 last season.

“I’m excited to have signed for Workington for the next few years and can’t wait to see what we can achieve as a club and how much I can improve as a player,” he said.

“To Barrow Raiders, I’d just like to say a massive thank you to the staff, fans and players I’ve met this year.

“It was a privilege to play in front of my hometown crowd and something I won’t ever forget.”
