Carlisle United had their goalkeeper sent off and later conceded a penalty in the first-half as they eventually slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Wycombe.
It left the Cumbrians a point above the drop zone, but there were some pleasing features even in this latest League One reversal.
After a decent start Carlisle’s problems started on 29 minutes when goalkeeper Jokull Andresson was sent off for handling outside his area.
The 10 men dug in with great determination and looked to be getting to half-time all square.
But just before the break Gareth McCleary was awarded a penalty after being fouled in the box and Luke Leahy converted for a narrow half-time lead.
Sam Vokes had a great opportunity to double the Wycombe lead soon after the restart but the Welsh international put a close range header over the bar.
Vokes then had another opportunity but substitute keeper Tomas Holy made a good save.
Carlisle were still in the game, however, and were close to getting on terms when Sam Lavelle was just wide with a header from a corner while Joe Garner blazed over the bar from a good position.
The misses proved costly because Vokes clinched victory for Wycombe in the 74th minute when he escaped the attentions of a Carlisle defender before sliding the ball past Holy into the bottom corner.
