Discussions are being held tomorrow about the possibility of reorganising the Championship and League One clubs.
There has been much discussion, particularly among League One clubs, following the withdrawal of London Skolars.
With Skolars pulling-out to play in the amateur Southern Conference it will leave only nine clubs.
An amalgamation of those League One teams with the 14-team Championship will be discussed at the meeting of clubs, among other options to be considered.
One of then ideas being put forward is to form East and West Conferences of 11 and 10 teams.
The top four from each League would go into end-of-season play-offs although there is still no confirmation about promotion and relegation which IMG, the RFL’s partners, seem averse to.
The West Conference suggestion would consist of: Cornwall, North Wales Crusaders, Barrow, London Broncos, Oldham, Rochdale, Swinton, Whitehaven, Widnes and Workington.
In the East Conference is would be: Batley, Bradford, Dewsbury, Doncaster, Halifax, Hunslet, Keighley, Midlands Hurricanes, Newcastle, Sheffield, York.
Significantly the Doncaster Chief executive Carl Hall is in favour, even though if it came into effect next season, would nullify the Don’s achievement in winning the promotion play-off final.
Hall said: “Nothing will take away from us what we did and at the end of the day we are a Championship club now.
“I just think we do need to look at structure change now in the interests of the sport.”
