A man has appeared in court accused of strangling and assaulting a woman inside a house in Maryport.
Lee Armstrong, 49, of Brookside, Seaton, faces three charges.
One alleges that he intentionally strangled a woman. A second alleges that he assaulted the woman by beating. And a third alleges that, without lawful excuse, he damaged a door belonging to the same complainant.
All charges arise out of alleged incidents on May 3 this year.
When Armstrong appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning, he pleaded not guilty to all three allegations.
Defence barrister Kim Whittlestone told the court, referring to the defendant’s denials: “It is a straightforward issue of fact as to what happened between the two of them inside the house.”
A trial in front of a crown court jury is due to start in the week of March 25 next year, and is expected to last around three days.
In the meantime Armstrong has been granted conditional bail.
