Wigton turned on the style in the second-half at Windermere to power away from their hosts and record a 63-27 win in the Cumbria Cup.
They had been ahead 26-20 at half-time but completely dominated the second-half to earn their place in the second round.
Even in the warm-ups it was clear that the two sides would offer contrasting styles with Windermere looking to play through their big forward pack while Wigton would move the ball into the wide channels.
For Wigton though the other challenge was to improve on their stop-start progress to the new season.
It was the returning Rocco Okesene who made a fine break and assist for the first try scored by debutant Robbie Pattinson. Okesene landed the conversion.

From the re-start Wigton moved the ball wide again and Charlie Bell scored in the corner with Okesene again adding the extras.
Wigton were then harshly penalised on their next attack for a palm-off to the face, which gave Windermere an opportunity to kick for the corner and set-up an attacking line-out close in. Following a series of drives they scored a converted try.
Wigton responded by attacking from the re-start and scored an unconverted try by James Paisley but more ill-discipline by Wigton allowed Windermere field position and they scord another try from a five metre scrum.

Then came the try of the day. Okesene fielded a kick and then set off on a mazy run, chipped into space and re-gathered to score under the posts before adding the conversion.
Windermere kicked two penalties through ruck indiscretions to leave them trailing 26-20 at the break.

That was as close as it got because in the second-half the young Wigton side started to fibd space and exploit the gaps scoring further tries through Jonathan Dodd, Pattinson, Paisley, Bell, Billy Stafford and 17-year-old debutant Mikey Dodd. Windermere added a further converted try.
In the end it ws a comfortable win for Wigton with five players making their senior first team debuts and all did exceptionally well.

It should have been a double week-end in the Lakes for Wigton who had organised a 2nd team game at Ambleside on Saturday but their hosts cried off on Friday night.
This Saturday will see Wigton seeking early revenge for a narrow defeat under the Winters Park floodlights when they host Penrith 2nds at Lowmoor Road (3pm).
