Workington Town half-back Ciaran Walker has been named Young Player of the Year for League One in 2023.
He received the award at the Rugby League Awards night held in Manchester after being nominated last month.
Walker had an excellent season, playing a key role in a rejuvenated campaign by Town in which he was the League One’s second top points scorer.
He was up against Joe Burton, an outside back who joined Hunslet after coming through the Leeds Academy; Connor Carr, a centre who has impressed in his second stint on loan at Oldham from Huddersfield Giants and; Ben O’Keefe, another three quarter who has shone for Rochdale Hornets since joining them from Wigan.
Town coach Anthony Murray had been nominated for League One coach of the year after his great work in improving Town this season.
But the award went to Liam Finn who led Dewsbury Rams to an immediate return to the Championship and one of his players Reiss Butterworth was named League One Player of the Year.
Mike Eccles was a popular winner as Betfred Championship Coach of the Year having plotted the Broncos’ stunning late-season run of form which leaves them 80 minutes away from a return to the Super League.
Barrow Raiders were crowned Foundation of the Year when they were vying for 2023 Foundation of the Year alongside all other UK clubs, including those at Betfred Super League level.
The Advantage Barrow Raiders Foundation scored highly across 11 categories which included promotion to the Betfred Women’s Super League for Barrow Ladies and an award-winning year for their Learning Disability and Able Raiders programmes.
