Garden waste collections are set to continue into November for Allerdale.
Cumberland Council provides a fortnightly garden waste collection to most households but collections are postponed over the winter months, as the amount of waste produced by green-fingered residents drops off.
But this year, the council have agreed with their contractor Allerdale Waste Services to extend garden waste collections which were due to end this month until 17 November which is the same date as collections end for the year in the former Copeland area.
Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s executive member for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “We’ve listened to residents’ feedback and are pleased that Allerdale Waste Services have been able to put measures in place to extend the garden waste collections.
“The unseasonably warmer weather we’ve been experiencing will no doubt mean the last grass cut of the year is later than usual, so we’re pleased that crews are still able to provide this service.”
Waste collection calendars have been amended online and people are encouraged to check when their revised last collection date is by visiting the Cumberland Council website.
