It wasn’t the Northern League christening that Penrith planned for their new surface at Frenchfield.
After months of playing away from home they hosted Northallerton and went down 2-0.
It was especially disappointing as they had scored a 3-1 win at Redcar Athletic the week before and were desperate to put back-to-back wins together.
Manager Darren Edmondson said: “We were looking to follow-up that away win in our first League home game of the season but it didn’t work out.
“They didn’t arrive until 2.50pm and we started half an hour later. I think it affected us more through the hanging around for them to arrive because we were poor in the first-half.
“We gifted them two soft goals and just couldn’t find anything.
“It was better in the second-half and to be honest I can’t remember them getting into our penalty area. But we created a number of chances and just couldn’t take them.
“We had enough opportunities to turn the game round but it just didn’t happen for us which was very disappointing.”
Alfie Conway had given Northallerton the lead on 11 minutes and McKenzie Diciccio added a second on the half hour which proved enough to take home the points.
