Keswick Men’s 1s were at home to Liverpool Sefton and although beaten 2-1 it represented a decent effort.
It stemmed from the visitors making a whirlwind start with Josh Evans scoring after a minute, and again after five minutes.
It left Keswick reeling, but they fought back well and Jack Chippendale pulled a goal back on 14 minutes.
The flow of the game changed and it was almost constant Keswick possession with the midfield providing good ammunition for the forwards.
However the front line was thwarted at every turn by some good defence and bad luck.
On the odd occasion Liverpool were in the Keswick D, Keswick keeper Will Anderson was equal to any shots that came his way, making a couple of good saves when it appeared Liverpool must score.
There were no more goals before half-time and the second half saw Keswick throw everything at Liverpool.
Unfortunately the forwards were unable to make the last touch count on numerous occasions.
Keswick’s pressure forced short corner after short corner. Tom Morgan, did his usual job at the top of the D and took several of the shots at goal – three times he beat the keeper and the defence, only to see his shots hit the post twice and the cross bar once.
All of which added to Keswick’s frustration as those two early goals proved enough for the Liverpool win despite them having only 25 per cent possession.
