After a busy and hard working five-day week in our gym this week with over 50 members coming through the doors, Workington Amateur Boxing Club were back out the road again competing.
No trip down the M6 this week, we were kindly invited onto the show of our local neighbours and respected friends Egremont Amateur Boxing Club with six boxers taking part in contests.
First up, young Lewis Turner took part in his first skills bout, after a nervous start Lewis show confidence as the contest progressed, showing some nice skills against his homeshow opponent (I Odod, Egremont).
Next up, Kane Shepherd competing in another skills encounter against an equally game, (C Graham, Underdog) putting together a tough encounter which mirrored a proper bout much to the delight of the crowd.
Elliot Murray was third into the ring, Stepping in against regular sparring partner and good friend (W Miller, Carlisle Villa).
A very close contest in which Elliot was very unfortunate not to the nod in a split decision encounter after hard work by boxers throughout.
Number four into the ring was Leon Emerson who starred in a rematch against a previous opponent (O Potts, North Star).
This encounter was subject to a number of big shots being exchanged throughout, Leon wasn’t successful on this occasion but cannot be faulted for his effort as he was a willing participant until the final bell.
Our penultimate club member competing was the recently returned Cayden Shepherd, who after only few weeks back in the gym took the opportunity at a few days notice to take on (S Unsworth, North Star).
Shepherd senior was able to call on his experience from old in this encounter to put in an effective performance and impress the judges on the front foot and claim the deserved victory.
The final club member to participant was senior class Brandon Briggs, continuing his families name into competitive action against (C Myers, Egremont).
Briggs, like his opponent was obliged to take there chances when given and scored with some great shots.
Myers was given the boxers with his hand raised in a very close encounter of which will be repeated in four weeks’ time at our own show.
Thanks to Al and all the coaches at Egremont Amateur Boxing Club and all the other opposing clubs who boxed against our club members.
Finally to all the coaches and parents who gave there Saturday up to help drive, prepare and corner the boxers, judge the contests and support also and local celebrity DJ and member of WABC, John Hastings for his words of encouragement prior to us setting off for the show.
