
Emergency services were called out to Maryport after reports that a person has got in difficulty in the River Ellen.
Police were called at around 3.10pm yesterday, Saturday October 28, to a report that a man was in the river near the B&M store.
Fire crews from Workington, Maryport and Whitehaven, the ambulance service, air ambulance, Maryport Rescue and Coastguard teams from Whitehaven and Maryport were alerted and gathered on Curzon Street.
Maryport Rescue said: “Upon arrival, the gentleman had been pulled from the shallows by a member of the public.
“He was assessed by the medical teams and stabilised before being placed on a rescue sled and moved down the river to a suitable site for extraction into the care of the ambulance service.”
