A man is due to appear in front of a Carlisle judge next month accused of kidnapping a child with intent to commit a sexual offence.
James William, 33, faces three charges. One alleges that he kidnapped a boy with the intention of committing a relevant sexual offence.
A second charge alleges kidnap of the boy, and that William carried him away unlawfully and by force or fraud and a third charge alleges that William sexually assaulted the boy, who is of secondary school age.
All charges arise out of alleged incidents which are said to have occurred in the Carlisle area on August 8 last year.
William’s case came before a district judge at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court today.
William was not present for the hearing but a lawyer did attend on his behalf. After hearing submissions from counsel in the case, the district judge, John Temperley, sent the case to the city’s crown court.
William, of no fixed address, is due to appear there in front of a judge on November 30.
In the meantime, William remains remanded in custody.
