A series of classical music concerts will be held in Carlisle – despite the closure of the city’s Sands Centre’s auditorium.
The Carlisle Classics season, due to be held in the main auditorium, will now instead be held in the venue’s sports hall.
The auditorium, which was forced to close after the discovery of RAAC in the roof and will be shut until the end of 2024.
Daniel Charlton, venue manager, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to relocate the Carlisle Classics series of concerts into the sports hall at The Sands
Centre.
“We have been working very closely for a number of years with our colleagues at The Glasshouse in Gateshead to bring classical music back to the diverse program of shows and events at our venue.
“Since the extended closure announcement we have been working to find alternative venues where possible and pleased that we will be able to accommodate these concerts at The Sands Centre still.”
The performances taking place are:
- Friday November 10 – Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
- Thursday February 15 – Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony
- Saturday March 16 – Elgar’s Cello Concerto
- Sunday April 28 – Angela Hewitt Plays Mozart
- Thursday May 9 – Brahm’s First Symphony
