Carlisle City had to settle for a point last night when they were held 2-2 at home by West Auckland.
In the end, though, manager Jim Nichols felt that it was probably a fair result given the events on then night.
He said: “The fixture was only given to us nine days ago and we had to make a number of changes. One lad travelled up from his work in Windsor and only just made the kick-off.
“Perhaps it wasn’t a surprise that we started so badly, probably the worst we have played this season.
“It was no surprise we went a goal down but credit to the players, they found a way to get back into it and I thought we could have been level by half-time.
“Second half we came out on fire and quickly got level and then took the lead. It was frustrating that they levelled within two minutes.
“But over the course of the second-half we had enough chances to win the game and hit the woodwork three times.
“At the end of the day we got a point which means we have only lost once at home this season.
“We are ion good heart ahead of our FA Vase tie at home to Cheadle Town on Saturday and everyone is looking forward to it.”
West Auckland had taken the lead on 16 minutes through James Harrison and Jordan Palmer scored the equaliser from the penalty spot after he had been brought down two minutes into the second-half.
Palmer laid on the second for Sam Atkinson on 66 minutes but two minutes later Harrison grabbed his second and that’s the way it stayed until the end.
