The final stage of work to refurbish Barrow’s iconic Jubilee Bridge will start on Monday.
The major improvement programme is planned to end in March, following 1,000 repairs to the steelwork, waterproofing of the bridge deck and re-painting of the structure.
Paint work on the remaining section will start next week, requiring the southern pavement to be closed. The northern pavement will remain open to pedestrians and traffic flow will not be restricted.
The southern pavement will then reopen in early January, while work is carried out on the northern pavement.
An initial closure of one traffic lane will be in place for up to three days from Monday, November 13, for the team to erect a scaffolding structure before paint work begins.
The section of road will be closed between 9.15am and 2.45pm.
During the refurbishment, the 350m bridge will remain open to traffic.
As with the previous phases of the programme, renovations will be carried out by Westmorland and Furness Council’s contractor Story Contracting.
The bridge carries up to 24,000 vehicles a day and is the only mainland crossing from Barrow to Walney Island.
