It’s been a hard few weeks for Penrith with disappointing results and the closure of the stand at Frenchfield.
But there were smiles all round when they hammered struggling Sunderland RCA 7-1 with an excellent all-round team performance.
Manager Darren Edmondson said: “You have to bear in mind that Sunderland RCA are where they are with only a point but we were far superior and did what we should do – won comfortably.
“It was nice to give debuts to three newcomers – Connor Hammill, Lewis Moore and Matty Bell – who all did well, while it was great to have Luke Brown back after eight weeks out with an ankle injury.
“We put them straight in because we thought they came with no baggage and they would freshen-up our line-up.
“I guess some of the lads were unhappy at being left out but they came on and all played a part in the win which was pleasing.
“We got off to a great start, scored some good goals and although Sunderland RCA are struggling we will take confidence from the result.
“We have to show that on Saturday when we will have it a bit tougher at North Shields but I hope to have another couple back from injury.”
New recruit Conor Hammell gave Penrith the lead on 12 minutes and, Luke Hunter doubled the advantage after 23 minutes. Andrew Miurray-Jones scored after 33 minutes for a 3-0 interval lead.
Penrith continued to make life tough for the visitors and in the second-half added further goals from Kingsley Grandison (52), Hunter (62), Daniel Smales (75) and Connor Shields (81).
George Pinder had pulled one back for Sunderland on 78 minutes.
