Some of the best billiards players in the world will be in Carlisle over the weekend of December 2 and 3 playing at Qzone.

The World Billiards organisation, which is part of the World Snooker Tour organisation, are holding the British Open.

It is one of only 13 events held around the world in the calendar year and is streamed live on YouTube.

The event is restricted to 60 entries with 40 of them are ranked in the Top 100 in the world , including the current World Champion Peter Gilchrist from Singapore and the beaten finalist Dave Causier from Middlesbrough.

There are a handful of local entries including John Metcalfe, secretary of the Carlisle and District Billiards League and Mike Griffiths, Cumbria Crack’s billiards correspondent.

The winner will pick-up a cheque for £700 with £350 for the runner up and £175 for the losing semi-finalists. There’s also money for making progress up to the semi-finals.
