Workington’s Christmas Festival and lights switch-on takes place this weekend.
From 11am to 5.15pm on Saturday, organisers Workington Town Council say the town centre will host a feast of festive entertainment, including music, a market, Father Christmas, Pet Encounter, face painting, science workshops and a snow machine.
Free parking is available in the multi-storey car park.
Mayor of Workington Beth Dixon will start proceedings at 11am from the main stage, outside Bensons for Beds and The Entertainer at the top of Washington Square, off Washington Street.
Throughout the day, a selection of live acts will perform to get everyone in the Christmas mood, including poet John Hastings, Somethin’ Brewin’, Shelbie McAllister, Miss Pearl, Workington Academy Performing Arts, Razzamataz Theatre School, Workington & District Amateur Musical Society, and The Carnegie Singers.
At 5pm, the mayor will oversee the light switch on and the event will come to a close.

She said: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s Christmas festival and lights switch-on. There is an excellent programme of entertainment and family fun for everyone. This is always a great event to end the year with when our whole community comes together. Thank you to Cumberland Council for providing free parking in the multi-storey car park for the whole day.
“We would encourage everyone to come out to support local businesses and enjoy some amazing live performances from our local talent.”
