
Temperatures are set to plunge to -6 in Cumbria as an amber alert has been issued for the North of England.
The alert from the UK Health Security Agency came into effect from 6pm yesterday, November 28 and lasts until noon on December 5. It indicates that a prolonged spell of very cold weather will likely impact have an impact on health.
Those who are considered vulnerable are encouraged to take steps to protect themselves against the falling temperatures. This includes older people (aged 65 year and over), people with long term health conditions, pregnant women, young children and those who are housebound or have low mobility, and those who struggling financially.
Gritters are being deployed across Cumbria’s roads and will grit priority roads where road temperatures reach near to or below zero degrees to keep communities safe and moving.
