Budget supermarket chain Aldi is planning to open a £6 million store in West Cumbria.
The company has written to residents around the site, the former East Road garage in Egremont, to let them know about the proposals and ask their opinion about it.
In a letter to residents, it said: “With a limited choice of food options in Egremont, Aldi has identified an opportunity to better meet those needs locally and reduce the current need to travel to Whitehaven.”
It said it would create up to 40 full and part-time jobs.
It said prior to submitting a planning application, it will also be sending a newsletter to 2,000 properties to gather feedback.
