After the big freeze Cumbrian rugby union clubs expect to get back into action this weekend, although the forecast rain might prove a problem in certain areas.
In Regional 1 North West Penrith and Kendal both have home fixtures with the Winters Park side, in particular, needing a win to boost their challenging League position.
At the moment they are next-to-bottom two points better off than Sandbach and two points behind Anselmians.
Their visitors Stockport are four places better off with eight more points than the Cumbrians.
This will certainly be one of the games that Penrith have targeted for maximum points to boost their precarious position.
Kendal, meanwhile, look to have a cracking contest ahead of them when they host Manchester with both sides locked on 30 points in the table.
Manchester take fifth place by virtue of a better points aggregate – but it’s only -4 opposed to -16.
Kendal would like to erase that difference and move ahead of their visitors after this one.
Fourth in the table Aspatria are the only one of the four Cumbrian sides in Regional 2 North who have a home fixture this week.
The Black Reds, disappointed to have their home lash with leaders Percy Park called off last week, entertain Stockton this time.
It could be a tense one as Stockton are only a point and a place below the Black Reds in fifth place.
Bottom side Cockermouth, the only side without a win, have the tough task of travelling to table-toppers Percy Park.
The Wasps have been showing gradual improvement but they will need plenty of application and commitment to stay in contention in the north east.
It’s a big game for Upper Eden who have slipped to next-to-bottom after a promising start. They travel to West Hartlepool who are just above them, three points better off.
Keswick are just above them and they travel to Durham City who are sixth in the table.
The big game in Counties 1 Cumbria is at St. Benedict’s where leaders Carlisle are the visitors.
Second-placed Benny’s are 12 points behind but they do have two games in hand. Martin Denvir will be the referee.
The other games are: Workington v Egremont (Mike Firby); Millom v Creighton (Paddy Loughran); Wigton v Windermere (Graham Kidd); Aspatria v Whitehaven (Jim Donald).
The game between Hawcoat Park and Penrith has been postponed.
