Carlisle United suffered another disappointing defeat on the road as they lost 3-0 at Blackpool.
The game reflected the contrasting situations of the two clubs as Blackpool moved to within three points of the play-offs while Carlisle are two points off the foot of the table.
The home side dominated the game, virtually from start to finish, as Carlisle tried to employ a containment job but unsuccessfully.
The opening goal on 22 minutes stemmed from an error by Carlisle keeper Tomas Holy as he fumbled a cross and was chipped by Andy Lyons.
Kenny Dougall was close to a second Blackpool goal but his effort was blocked while Jake Beesley put a glancing effort just the wrong side of the post.
Blackpool continued to boss the game. Jordan Rhodes scored the second goal on 67 minutes, reacting smartly to finish after Holy initially saved from Beesley.
There were rare glimpses of goal for Carlisle and both Alfie McDermott and Jordan Gibson had opportunities but were unable to capitalise.
The third Blackpool goal came in stoppage time when the hard-working Rhodes produced a typically clinical finish to net his 13th goal of the season.
Carlisle must hope that manager Paul Simpson can come up with a similar type of quality finisher during the January transfer window.
