Workington’s 2-2 scoreline at Ashton United on Saturday has sent club historian Steve Durham delving into the record books!
That was Reds fifth successive draw and Steve, a fan since the 1960s and a meticulous records analyser can’t remember one sequence that long.
“I am checking it all the way back but the one I have found relates to the club’s early years in the Football League back in the 1953-54 season,” he told Cumbria Crack.
It’s been an outstanding run this time round, building on a 3-0 win at Basford to register draws with some of the better sides in the NPL Premier Division – three of them away from home.
They drew 1-1 at Whitby and 4-4 at Marine before sharing the points at home to Morpeth (2-2) and to Worksop (3-3).
If Reds got out of jail against a fine Worksop side with two goals in the last eight minutes, they were denied a win at Ashton by a home equaliser in the 92nd minute.
It was a game where Reds had been down to the bare bones with manager Danny Grainger on the bench along with second keeper Danny Eccles and three teenagers.
Next up are big spending Macclesfield at Borough Park on Tuesday night with the visitors no doubt smarting from a surprise 4-3 home defeat yesterday to Bradford PA.
