Cleator Moor Celtic were back to winning ways with a 2-1 home win over Tempest United in the West Lancashire Premier Division.
They had to recover from conceding a 13th minute goal from Joel Shorthouse but recovered well to lead 2-1 by half-time – and that’s the way it stayed.
Manager Stuart Shaw said: “I was delighted for the lads on getting a much needed three points, having had the Fulwood defeat hanging over us for two weeks.
“Credit to Tempest, I thought they looked really dangerous at times going forward and caused us some problems, but as a team defensively we stuck at it and saw the game out.
“Going a goal down from a set piece was not the start we were looking for but it seemed to wake-up the lads and got a great response from that.
“Our first goal was a great set piece delivery from Tom Mahone which found Rhys Little to volley home with the outside of his foot.

“The second goal came from a corner taken by Luke Close who was impressive all game. It found Adam Smith at the back post and he headed us into a deserved lead going into the break.
“We started poorly in the second half and then got control of the game having numerous chances and with the correct pass in the final third of the field could have scored a lot more goals.

“Playing football in the right areas is key and not giving possession away cheaply was something we need to work on and not putting pressure on our back line.
“All in all I’m more than delighted with the three points ahead of the massive Cumbrian clash on the 23rd at home to our neighbours Whitehaven Amateurs.
“It’s a game that excites myself and my players and we hope to see a lot of supporters from Cleator Moor get behind our lads.”
