Whitehaven Rugby League have announced that they will be playing their first pre-season warm-up game ahead of the traditional Ike Southward Memorial Trophy.
They will be in action for the first time on Sunday, January 14 when they travel to the DCBL Stadium to take on Widnes Vikings in a testimonial match for Jack Owens.
The 29-year-old Owens made one appearance for Haven in March 2015 on dual registration from the Vikings in a 18-16 Championship home victory versus London Broncos.
A full-back or winger, Owens played for Widnes from 2011 to 2015 and returned to the club in 2019 after spells with St Helens, Sheffield and Leigh. In total he has made 93 appearances for the Vikings and scored 45 tries.
The Widnes game will be a week ahead of the big annual clash with Workington Town at the Fibrus Community Stadium on January 21.
It should provide something of a form guide – if that’s possible in pre-season – as Town visit Widnes this Sunday.
