Workington’s young recruit Tate Zischke scored five points in the first round of the Australian Championship.
It didn’t get him near the podium but it was a commendable effort by the Comets signing who rode well in a strong field.
His five points from five rides included a fall and exclusion in his fourth outing, and were made up of a second and three thirds.
It was a similar scoring pattern to established rioders like Keynen Ew, Ben Cook and Zach Cook.
Workington track photographer Dave Payne reported for Cumbria Crack: “Tate looked impressive when battling with Max Fricke and Josh Pickering in one race and got close to Ryan Douglas in another.
“He started with a good second behind Rohan Tungate but took a fall in his fourth outing which rather spoiled his personal record on the night.
“Tate was a wildcard for this meeting in North Brisbane and it’s the only round of the championship he is due to contest.”
Max Fricke won the final after collecting 11 points from his five programmed rides in the meeting which put him behind Rohan Tungate (13) on the night.
But in the final, although Tungate got away first it was Fricke who blasted into the lead on the second lap and couldn’t be pegged back.
Tungate was second with Belle Vue star Jaimon Lidsey third and Josh Pickering in fourth.
Programmed five ride scores for the 16 challengers were: Ben Cook 6; Chris Holder 10; Max Fricke 11; Zach Cook 4; James Pearson 7; Ryan Douglas 8; Fraser Bowes 1; Sam Masters 7; Rohan Tungate 13; Michael West 1; Tate Zischke 5; Keynan Rew 5; Jack Holder 10; Brady Kurtz 8; Josh Pickering 11; Jaimon Lidsey 13.
