National bus company Stagecoach, which transports passengers to some of the best known places in the Lake District and Cumbria, is backing the county’s independent food awards.

The firm has announced it is to sponsor the Hotel Restaurant of the Year category at the 2024 Cumbria Food Awards, held in association with Caterite.

Stagecoach is one of the largest bus operators in the UK and carries about 25 million passengers every year.

Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire provides transport services across Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal, West Cumbria and Morecambe, helping customers to reach tourism and hospitality destinations, workplaces, shops and services.

A highlight of the food and drink industry’s year, Cumbria Food Awards will take place at Kendal College on Thursday, 14 March. The 2024 host is TV presenter, chef and restaurateur Simon Rimmer.

More than 1,400 business entries and public nominations were made for the awards, across 13 competitive categories, which include Casual Dining Venue, Restaurant, Chef, Drinks Producer and Café of the Year. The finalists will be announced later this month.

Managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire Tom Waterhouse said: “I am delighted that Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire is sponsoring the Hotel Restaurant of the Year category at the 2024 Cumbria Food Awards.

“It’s important for us as a company to support the communities we serve and share our success by supporting initiatives like the Cumbria Food Awards.

“Cumbria has a reputation as a food lover’s must-visit destination and Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire plays an important role in supporting the local economy, whether that’s getting hospitality workers to and from work each day or allowing customers to ditch the car and take the bus to the many incredible restaurants, cafés and coffee shops across the county. Best of luck to all the finalists and winners on the night.”

The Cumbria Food Awards reception, gala dinner and presentation will be attended by more than 150 finalists, sponsors and special guests. Kendal College students will cook and serve canapés and a two-course dinner before Simon Rimmer announces the winners.

In addition to headline sponsor Caterite, Cumbria Food Awards category sponsors are Academy by Simon Rogan; Cranstons; Cumbria Crack; Enterprise Answers; Grapevine; Hawkshead Relish; Herdwick Cottages; Kendal College; Lamont Pridmore; More? The Artisan Bakery; Onunda; Spinning Jennies and Thomson Hayton Winkley Solicitors.

We are Cumbria Food Awards media partner. Northern grocer Booths is supplying the food for the networking reception and H&H Reeds is providing printing services.
