Drivers were stopped on a major road in north Cumbria today as farmers were forced to use it.
Temporary traffic lights were installed on the A595 today, Saturday January 13, to allow a farm to move its sheep across the road.
The sheep were moved at around noon, just past the Orton Grange roundabout near Carlisle, and the road was clear by 12.20pm.
The farm said: “We would never normally move sheep across that road, but the fields are so wet we can’t get a vehicle onto the field and from a welfare point of view they are in-lamb ewes and the field is too wet/not enough grass on it.”
