Maryport produced a superb result when they made the long trek to Humberside to play Hull Dockers in the first round of the BARLA National Cup for Under-14s.
This particular squad includes five players who have already caught the eye of Super League giants Wigan – and that showed as they moved through with an impressive 26-10 victory.
Travelling to Hull has phased lots of sides before but not these Maryport youngsters who came through a tough opening ten minutes by showing great resilience.
The Dockers were a big, powerful side and after their strong early pressure it was Maryport’s relentless defence which broke their spirit.

Three superb tries by debutant Herbert Glaister came off the back of some great team work to edge the West Cumbrians ahead at the break.
Shortly after the interval Maryport were reduced to 12 men through some ill-discipline but this just seemed to galvanise the team further and Lucas Smiles was on hand to add a further two tries to wrap-up the win.
Maryport had led 12-4 at half-time and their three conversions were put over by Liam Chilton (2) and Mason McNichol.

Andrew Hutchinson, a long-standing member of the coaching team, said he was immensely proud of the whole team.
“The work rate and effort that they put in was a joy to see. They all played for the badge and for each other. I’m really excited for the season,” he said.
