A 3-0 home defeat by Guisborough was something of a reality check for Penrith, according to manager Darren Edmondson.
The Bonnyblues had players missing but it was still a disappointing result after the way they had been going, particularly at home, in recent weeks.
“When you haven’t any big men in your line-up you have to rely on moving the ball well and accuracy of passing.
“We didn’t do that well enough and against a side who are a bit physical and try to bully you it makes life hard.
“In some way it was something of a reality check but I am sure we will bounce back next Saturday with no mid-week game.,” said Edmondson.
Penrith did have a couple of chances in the first 20 minutes which they didn’t take and Callum Martin gave Guisborough the lead with a 38th minute penalty.
Although they huffed and puffed in the second-half Penrith never seriously tested the Guisborough keeper in the second half.
Goals from Kurtis Howes (64) and Jason Blackburn (69) saw Guisborough through to a comfortable win.
To add to Penrith’s woes Dan Smales was stretchered off with what looked like a serious knee injury.
“He’s just come back from a thigh injury and this looks as if it could keep him out for a few weeks. Hope it’s not as bad as that,” said Edmondson.
