A man has appeared in court after cocaine worth £1.5 million was found in a car on the M6.
Paul May, 39, of Mill Lane, Southport, appeared at North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court today charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.
It follows a police investigation after a vehicle was stopped on the M6 near Todhills on Tuesday 6 February for vehicle checks at a weighbridge, which also revealed vehicle faults.
Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered 15kg of cocaine, which equates to a potential street value of £1.5 million.
May was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on 4 March.
The activity is part of Operation Alliance, Cumbria Constabulary’s ongoing response aiming to protect the county against serious and organised crime.
