Carlisle City dropped more points when they were held 3-3 by Crook Town at Gillford Park.
But City stay fifth and can put more pressure on the teams around them on Tuesday when they will be looking to get back to winning ways at struggling Sunderland RCA.
Manager Jim Nichols said: “I don’t think anybody expected us to be up there so all we can do is keep picking-up points and seeing what happens over the last two months of the season.
“Maybe a draw was a fair result for this one but I think we had more opportunities and their keeper was certainly the busier.
“We equalised four minutes from the end and if the game had lasted for much longer I feel as though we could have grabbed a winner because we were on top.”
Jordan Palmer had broken the deadlock on 38 minutes when he was at the far post to tap home after Callum Birdsall had headed on.
On the stroke of half-time Crook levelled from the penalty spot through Craig Moody although nobody seemed sure as to why the spot kick had been awarded.
Birdsall put City back in front on 57 minutes but then two goals in as many minutes from Nick Marley (68, 69) seemed to have tipped the game Crook’s way.
But City finished strongly and after strong penalty appeals were turned down they grabbed the equaliser when Jack Dickinson (86) headed home a set piece delivery.
Complacency might be City’s biggest enemy on Tuesday as Sunderland RCA, next to bottom, have only won once in 24 games and have just four points – conceding 92 goals in the process.
