Penrith ended a run of three straight defeats with a good 3-1 home win against Seaham Red Star.
The Bonnyblues had a number of players back after missing Saturday’s narrow 4-3 defeat to Birtley Town, and were in control for long periods of the game.
Manager Darren Edmondson said: “We shouldn’t have lost on Saturday so it was pleasing that we got what we deserved this time from a comfortable win.
“All five subs came on and played a part in getting us over the line which was good.
“We had been looking comfortable at 2-0 and they scored a goal out of nowhere, from about 35 yards, which made the last few minutes rather nervous.
“But then we scored a fine counter attacking goal to make it safe.
“We now face the prospect of three games in six days as we play Saturday, Monday and Friday so will use the full squad as best we can.
“Two of the games will be away on grass, and we haven’t been playing much on it recently, so will have to get used to it again.”
Luke Brown had given Penrith the lead with a clever chip over the Seaham goalkeeper on 18 minutes.
It stayed 1-0 until the 64th minute when Kingsley Grandison went round the keeper and slotted the ball home from a tight angle.
Late on Daniel Jones’ spectacular long-range effort gave Seaham hope but in the fifth minute of added time Penrith countered well and Luke Hunter scored the clinching third goal.
Penrith go to North Shields on Saturday; entertain Whickham on Monday and visit West Auckland on the Friday.
