A Cumbrian chef is set to appear on the BBC’s Great British Menu.
Nina Matsunaga, chef and co-owner of top gastropub The Black Bull, based in Sedbergh, will appear on the 2024 season of the show.
She features as one of four chefs representing the North West of England in the regional heats – which start on Tuesday February 27 and will see the chefs competing for a place in finals week.
The 36-year-old is competing on the show for the first time and will battle it out for a place in the show’s finale.
Nina said: ‘’I’ve thought about taking part in Great British Menu for quite a few years now, but I never thought I would find the courage to apply.

“This year I felt I should push myself beyond my comfort zone, and although a challenge it was an exceptional experience competing alongside some very talented chefs. It was an honour to represent the North West which has a rich culinary tapestry, with some of the greatest produce.
“This year’s theme was pretty interesting and threw up a few challenges and really made me think, so we’ll just have to see how things go and where I end up in the competition.’’
The first episode will be broadcast on BBC Two, at 8pm, on Tuesday February 27. It will also be available on iPlayer.
Three episodes will be shown that week as part of a nine-week series, covering regional heats before the finals week, and the series finale culminating in ‘the banquet’.
The show has a theme each year and this year it is celebrating Britain’s success in the Olympics and Paralympics. It will come to a head at an event hosted by the British Ambassador to France for Team GB wishing the country’s athletes good luck as they prepare for Paris 2024.
