Penrith go into action tonight at home to Whickham looking to build on Saturday’s 2-1 win at North Shields.
It wasn’t the Bonnyblues best performance of the season but it was a welcome away success as the vast majority of their 31 points have been accumulated at Frenchfield.
Manager Darren Edmondson, who will have to make changes tonight, said: “The pitch was awful but that’s the same for both sides and they were a young side who, like ourselves, wanted to get the ball down and play.
“The pitch obviously didn’t help but they had a man sent-off midway through the first-half and we did enough without playing well to win the game.
“So many of our early games were away from home without much joy so it was good to get the three points. We want to keep that going tonight at home and then on Friday we have a tough away trip to West Auckland who are pushing for a top five finish.”
Lewis Henry was sent off for North Shields in a goal-less first half and it was the ten men who went in front through Luke Salmon 12 minutes into the second-half.
Penrith had joy from two set pieces, turning second phase play into goals to win the game. Connor Shields equalised on 63 minutes and Nick Holden grabbed the winner three minutes from the end.ReplyReply allForward
