Penrith were able to follow up a win at North Shields on Saturday with a successful return to Frenchfield last night.
The Bonnyblues beat Whickham 5-3 to move into the top half of the Northern League First Division.
It was a performance which delighted manager Darren Edmondson, who suggested it was one of their best of the season.
Edmondson said: “We won on Saturday but didn’t play particularly well, but this was different because we were very good on the night and I was really pleased for the team.
“They were full of energy and moved the ball really positively and quickly. Out of possession we were really good, harassing and closing down to get the ball back and then using it well.
“To be honest we could have had double figures because we created plenty of chances, certainly two one-on-ones with the keeper and we had two very strong claims for penalties turned down.
“It was pleasing all round but we have to go again on Friday. We won’t train before then but the players will work on their own and be ready for a tough trip to West Auckland who are in the top five mix.
“There were a couple of minor knocks last night but I don’t think there were any serious ones. We also should have Matty Bell back in contention on Friday which will add another to the squad.”
Former Man City youth team player Kingsley Grandison had given Penrith the lead after two minutes with a delightful chip over the Whickham keeper from 35 yards.
Although the dangerous Scott Robson levelled on seven minutes for the visitors, Penrith went back in front three minutes later through Luke Hunter.
Luke Brown made it 3-1 with a well-taken goal on 33 minutes and five minutes into the second-half Lewis Moore, on loan from Workington Reds, put more daylight between the two sides with the fourth.
Robson converted a 67th minute penalty for Whickham but a minute later Hunter scored his second for the home side.
The final goal of the game came in the fifth minute of time added on and it was again Robson on target to complete his hat-trick.
