A man who stands accused of attempted murder following an alleged stabbing on a Cleator Moor road has appeared in front of a judge.
Lee Walker, 33, faces five charges which arise out of incidents which are said to have occurred at William Morris Avenue in the town on Saturday January 27 this year.
One charge alleges that Walker attempted to murder John Redmond on that date.
Walker also faces a second charge which allege that he assaulted another man, causing actual bodily harm; two which allege the illegal possession of kitchen knives in public at William Morrison Avenue; and a fifth which alleges that Walker assaulted an emergency worker — a female police detention officer.
A Cumbria police spokesman said in the aftermath of the incident that one man had been taken to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries.
Walker, of Seven Acres, Parton, Whitehaven, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this morning remotely over a video link from custody.
During a seven-minute hearing he spoke to confirm his name and date of birth.
No pleas were formally entered to the charges at the direction of Judge Nicholas Barker after he heard submissions from the prosecutor and a barrister representing Walker.
The case was adjourned, and Walker is next due to appear at the crown court on March 8. In the meantime, Walker remains remanded in custody.
