Workington Town will be without experienced playmaker Jarrod Sammut for Sunday’s clash with Whitehaven.
The Maltese international picked up a one match suspension for a late contact in the Challenge Cup-tie at Batley.
He will miss the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy game at the Fibrus Community Stadium against their local rivals.
Town’s Jack Stephenson was also charged with dangerous contact in the same game but is free to play after being handed a £40 fine.
Coach Anthony Murray has one or two other players recovering from knocks so will make a late decision on his line-up for the game.
“It’s unfortunate that we have players struggling for full fitness but we will still be putting out a competitive side.
“We got a lot out of the game against Whitehaven two weeks ago and we want to be ready for the start of the League One season in a fortnight,” said Murray.
Billy Southward, grandson of the legendary Ike, had been on trial with Town hoping to be able to play in this particular game.
But he was inured in training and has been sidelined for the last few weeks, culminating in a scan on his damaged knee today.
