A Lake District walker broke both his legs after fall on Scafell Pike.
The man, from the Whitehaven area, had spent the entire night on the fellside after setting off for a walk on February 28.
He was reported as missing and several mountain rescue teams, including Keswick, Cockermouth and Wasdale, were called out to help search for him in the Scafell Pike area yesterday, February 29 at around 7am.
Cockermouth volunteers alerted their Keswick colleagues to a possible sighting in Piers Gill and asked them to help extract the man via a rope rescue.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said: “It seems the man may have taken a wrong turn down Piers Gill and injured himself after a fall whilst in the gill.
“He was fortunate for his shouts to be heard by Cockermouth team who were ascending the rim of the deep gill.
“After the man was hauled out the Coastguard helicopter made several attempts to airlift the man but had to abort due to low cloud.

“The least difficult evacuation was a stretcher carry up over Lingmell Col to the air ambulance who had managed to land on the grassy slopes of Lingmell.”
The man was taken to hospital and is recovering well, Cumbria Crack understands.
