A new outdoor laundrette has been launched in Cockermouth.
Revolution Laundry are behind the self-service machine which is based on Station Road near Lakes Electrical Supplies in the town.
The new laundrette aims to address a need for laundry services in the area, a spokesperson for the firm said.
They added: “We choose our locations very carefully and base it on where we feel people will have a need for the service and where it is convenient to access.
“That can include places like outside retailers, supermarkets or forecourts. It’s really anywhere that’s easy for people to get to and where they feel safe doing their washing.
“Economically we’ve had a lot of good feedback with people saying they find it’s a good way for them to budget with the rising cost of living.
“Because our machines can handle a lot of washing it means larger families can do three loads at once which saves them time.
“We’ve also had feedback saying it does allow for budgeting as it is a set cost with no hidden extras and our hypoallergenic detergent is included as part of that.”
Made up of two washing machines and a dryer – the outdoor laundrette is one of a handful that have been installed in Cumbria.
The machines are also much larger than a typical household washing machine and can handle up to 20kg of washing at a time or larger items such as curtains or bedding.
The laundrette is accessible 24/7 and prices for drying washing start at £3.50 for 15 minutes while for 9kg of washing prices start at £11.50 and for 20kg of washing prices start at £11.
People using the service for washing or drying are able to lock the machines and enter their phone number to receive a text telling them when their laundry is done.
Revolution Laundry is part of the ME Group, a French company known best for bringing PhotoMe photobooths to the UK.
The business has been running for 70 years and specialises in vending and automated equipment.
Over 800 mobile laundrettes are currently in use across the UK – with a total of about 3000 being used worldwide.
Revolution Laundry said it is looking to continue rolling out more mobile laundrettes across Cumbria.
